Funeral services for Corey Durell Ruiz, the 38-year-old father fatally shot by a Madison Police Department officer on July 22, will be held Friday, August 14, at 11 a.m. at Fountain of Life Church, 633 W. Badger Road in Madison. Rev. Al Sharpton, founder of the National Action Network, will deliver the eulogy, and civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who is representing the Ruiz family, will deliver a “Call to Justice.”
Ruiz, who was experiencing homelessness at the time of his death, was shot during a struggle with four officers who were attempting to arrest him near Williamson and South Baldwin streets. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
