WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Fifty years ago, a gunman opened fire from a downtown Wichita hotel, killing three people and injuring several others in one of the city’s deadliest mass shootings.
On Aug. 11, 1976, 19-year-old Michael Soles started a several-minute-long shooting rampage from the 26th floor of what was then the Holiday Inn, located across from Century II.
Six people, including suspect, dead after shooting in Winfield
Soles was later found guilty on multiple counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. He is currently serving his sentence at the Winfield Correctional Facility.
In 2017, his request for parole was denied. He will be considered for parole again in 2027…
