PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 10-year-old boy experiencing a mental health crisis was rescued from an overpass in Portland on Tuesday, officials said.
Police said they responded to Northeast 162nd Avenue and Northeast Russell Street around 10 a.m. on Tuesday where they found the boy had climbed onto the fencing and was hanging from the overpass.

Portland Fire and Rescue and the Oregon Department of Transportation closed nearby lanes of eastbound Interstate 84 as well as Northeast 162nd Avenue as officers and crisis negotiators talked to the boy for more than an hour. Eventually, at 11:30 a.m., they brought him down using the ladder from a fire truck.
