EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Despite over $6 million more budgeted to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office this year, the department could still be short on funds by the end of the fiscal year.
El Paso County Budget Director Carmen Arrieta-Candelaria told the Commissioners Court Monday, Aug. 10, the Sheriff’s Office may come up $2.5 million over budget. She said the Sheriff’s Office has $23.4 million left for the fiscal year but will have to spend all of it on salaries, overtime expenses and an additional contingency request for meals.
“We’ve made some assumptions there is not going to be any further spending, and that’s probably not a good assumption but that’s what we used on our analysis,” she said…
