Hot weather in Arkansas is nothing new but the latest data from the National Weather Service (NWS) in North Little Rock suggests the next two weeks may rank up there with some of the most historic heat waves seen in the state’s weather history. Along with the heat will be the risk of a flash drought developing as no rain is forecast through late August.
According to a report from the NWS on Tuesday afternoon, depending on how this specific heatwave plays out, the potential exists for it to exceed 2011 and 2012 while possibly getting into 1980 territory in terms of historic impact.
In Northern Arkansas, daytime highs will reach at least the upper 90s this week, with high confidence they will exceed 100 degrees daily starting this weekend.
