VANCOUVER, Wash. — A new U.S. Army vessel built by hundreds of workers in Vancouver was unveiled Tuesday, marking another step in the military’s effort to modernize its watercraft fleet while bringing high-skilled jobs and work to the Pacific Northwest.
Vigor Marine Group unveiled the USAV Craney Island, the second Maneuver Support Vessel (Light), or MSV(L), built at its Vancouver facility. The 120-foot vessel is designed to move heavy military equipment through shallow waterways and challenging environments and is expected to be delivered to the Army this fall.
The project involves more than just Vigor’s workforce. More than 300 skilled workers at the Vancouver facility contributed to Craney Island, along with more than 40 Washington state-based companies and suppliers and partners across the Pacific Northwest and the United States, according to Vigor…
