High tides, pounding waves threaten Southern California beach communities

High tides and pounding surf are jeopardizing the coastline in Long Beach, where flooding has become a daily reality for many beachfront residents.

Bulldozers and trucks worked overnight into Wednesday to shore up the seawall and build berms to protect homes and property. Sheets of plywood were lined up vertically along the Long Beach Peninsula as a temporary solution.
