Deer Park Man Sentenced To 25 Years to Life in Prison for Nail Salon Crash That Killed Four People, Including Off-Duty NYPD Officer

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Steven Schwally, 66, of Deer Park, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for crashing his vehicle into a nail salon while intoxicated and speeding, killing four people and injuring several others in June 2024. The defendant was found guilty of four counts of Murder in the Second Degree and several related charges following a jury trial in June 2026.

“Steven Schwally drank until his blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit. He chose to get behind the wheel of an SUV, run four stop signs and speed through a red light, crashing his two-ton vehicle into a room full of people,” said District Attorney Tierney. “Four families are now living with the deadly consequences, including the family of an off-duty New York City police officer. We have now achieved justice on behalf of these families and survivors who continue to deal with the fallout from the defendant’s decisions.”
