CINCINNATI, Ohio — The city of Cincinnati has opened an emergency shelter as tens of thousands of people remain without power and cleanup continues following Tuesday’s severe storms.
The storms were part of a larger system that crossed the Midwest and is being evaluated as a “likely derecho,” according to the Storm Prediction Center. Winds of over 80 mph were reported as the storms moved through, knocking down trees, power poles and utility lines and leaving residents without electricity.
On Wednesday, city officials announced that the American Red Cross has established a shelter for those affected by the storms. The shelter is at the Hartwell Recreation Center, at 8275 Vine Street. The shelter will offer food and overnight shelter to anyone who needs help…
