RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — 8News is your Back-To-School Headquarters this 2026-27 school year! Here’s what students and families kicking off a new academic year at Richmond Public Schools (CCPS) need to know.
The first day of school for Richmond students in pre-K through fifth grade, as well as sixth and ninth grades, is Monday, Aug. 24. Students in seventh and eighth grades, as well as grades 10 through 12, begin school on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Things to know and what to bring to school
While individual classroom needs vary, RPS said the most requested items across the district include notebooks, folders, basic school supplies, and hygiene essentials such as hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes.
