Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) officials, alongside state officials from Delaware and New Jersey, celebrated major achievements of the Delaware Memorial Bridge.
The event, held in New Castle, Delaware, on Wednesday, Aug. 12, highlighted the 75th anniversary of the first span of the Delaware Memorial Bridge, and the completion of the $89 million Bridge Ship Collision Protection System (SCPS).
The Ship Collision Protection System, which started construction in 2023, consists of eight solid-fill “dolphin” cells – which are concrete cylinders filled with sand and topped with stone measuring 80 feet in diameter.
