BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — At Panama Elementary School, Douglas Miller is regarded as something of a legend.
He has been a part of the school’s educational mission virtually all his life. His father was the school custodian at Panama School, and the Millers actually lived on the then-rural school grounds. Young Doug felt like he kind of ran the place.

“My family had a house right there on the campus,” he said, “and so I could play out there.”
Years later, he did run the place — literally — as superintendent of the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District…
