A Newark man who took a Kearny police officer on a journey into Newark after an alleged shoplifting of more than a grand in merchandise at Old Navy — and who got into an altercation with him along the way — has ultimately apprehended on McCarter Highway and now he’s behind bars, for now.
According to Det. Lt. Michal Gontarczuk, the Kearny Police Department’s public-information officer:
On Aug. 12 at 10:22 a.m., KPD Units responded to Old Navy, where a shoplifter had reportedly placed more than $1,100 worth of merchandise into a garbage bag and fled the store. A description of the suspect and direction of flight was broadcast, after which Officer Brad Salinas located the suspect near the Clay Street Bridge into Newark…
