NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Tennessee’s top prosecutor filed a lawsuit in Nashville against a Bartlett-based animal nonprofit and its director.
The Tennessee Attorney General’s Office filed the complaint July 15 in Davidson County Chancery Court against Bartlett Animal Shelter Support and its director, Laura Jean Mace.

Mace incorporated the nonprofit in May 2022, filing a charter that designated it a public-benefit organization. The complaint explains that under this designation, the nonprofit was barred from distributing earnings to individuals, including officers or directors.
According to the Attorney General’s office, Mace violated the charter in December 2023 by making unauthorized withdrawals from the nonprofit’s bank account. A total of $2,600.36 in unauthorized funds were withdrawn, according to bank statements…
