A Texas woman named Yvette Hinds ordered a regular Sausage and Egg McMuffin from a McDonald’s outlet at 51st Street and Broadway in Manhattan back in May 2023. However, Hinds would end up filing a lawsuit, claiming that the item she ordered was “wholly unfit for human consumption,” per a lawsuit reviewed byThe Independent.
Hinds alleged that she experienced severe pain throughout her body after eating the McMuffin
Three years after she ordered the McMuffin from an NYC outlet of the fast-food chain, Hinds filed a civil complaint on May 26 at the Manhattan Supreme Court. The lawsuit claims that the plaintiff had no idea that the item was “contaminated, tainted, injurious, unwholesome,” and not ideal for human consumption when she ordered it. However, the woman allegedly fell ill, experiencing nausea and “severe pains and distress throughout her body” after she finished eating.
The lawsuit claims that Hinds has had to undergo multiple “operations, procedures and treatments” in the aftermath of her trip to McDonald’s. The plaintiff’s nervous, mental and physical systems are allegedly “permanently and seriously” injured after the incident. Hinds has allegedly been rendered unable to perform household duties owing to her illnesses caused by the consumption of the fast-food item.
McDonald’s outlet owner denies allegations of contaminated food
The lawsuit alleges that the Midtown Manhattan McDonald’s outlet was negligent in the preparation, storage, service, handling, cleaning, inspection, distribution and control of the item. The suit argues that the outlet and its “officers, agents, servants and/or employees” are responsible for the alleged damage caused to the plaintiff through carelessness and “willful disregard.”
Meanwhile, the outlet’s owner/operator, Paul Goodman, has vociferously denied the allegations contained in the suit. “As a local business owner, I take great pride in serving safe, high-quality food to every customer who walks through our doors. We always take matters like these seriously and investigate thoroughly,” Goodman noted in response to the lawsuit, per The Independent.
Patrons have sued the fast-food chain in recent years over alleged cases of contamination
Hinds is now seeking monetary compensation for the damages. The amount of compensation, which will include attorney fees and court costs, will be determined at trial.
