Florida had more than 3,000 vacant positions for educators, according to a recent report, with hundreds open in South Florida alone.
There were 3,157 “advertised instructional vacancies” as of Aug. 4 this year throughout the state, according to an Aug. 10 press release by the Florida Education Association (FEA), which includes the organization’s report. There were a further 2,379 open positions for support staff as of the same date, representing a cumulative total of 5,536 vacancies.
“FEA performs counts of advertised vacancies listed on school district websites twice a year, in August and January,” reads the report, adding that the data represents “a snapshot in time.”
Instructional, support vacancies in South Florida
In Broward County, there were 358 “instructional vacancies” as of Aug. 4, 2026, according to the report, up from 283 on Aug. 5 in 2025, but down from 606 on Aug. 8 in 2024.
