Newly released bodycam footage appears to show a dramatic confrontation between Oakland, Calif., police and a spear-wielding man who was shot and killed when he lunged at officers with his makeshift weapons.

On July 13, an unhoused man from Oakland was shot and killed in the city’s Fruitville district, the Oakland Police Department (OPD) said in a statement.

KTVU and The Oaklandsidelaterreported, citing police sources, that the man killed was Jose Angel Castillo, 43. The OPD confirmed to PEOPLE that the man is believed to be Castillo, however, they’re awaiting official confirmation from the Alameda County coroner’s office and asking the public for assistance in identifying and locating his next of kin…
