SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Alicia Keys surprised San Diego Civic Theatre guests during opening night of the musical “Hell’s Kitchen,” which is based on the singer-songwriter’s adolescence in 90s Midtown Manhattan.
“This story was inspired by my experiences growing up in New York City, and to watch it tour around the country like this is absolutely a dream come true,” Keys said to the cheering crowd Tuesday.
“Hell’s Kitchen” centers on 17-year-old Keys, focusing on her relationship with her mother, young love, her search for identity and community and her introduction to music. It also touches on topics central to New York City at the time, like Rudy Giuliani’s controversial stop-and-frisk policy…
