A 51-year-old woman from Baytown, Texas, was killed just before noon on August 10 when her car was caught between two commercial trucks on Louisiana Highway 93 near Rue Scholastique Road in Scott. Michelle Yzquierdo was driving a 2021 Chrysler Pacifica that had been turning left from Rue Scholastique Road onto the highway when the crash unfolded, according to preliminary findings from investigators.
Louisiana State Police Troop I reported that Yzquierdo’s Pacifica entered the path of a 2025 Kenworth truck that was traveling south on Highway 93 hauling a flatbed trailer. As reported by KATC, the Kenworth struck the passenger side of her vehicle, and the Pacifica was then hit again on its passenger side by a northbound 1993 Peterbilt hauling a trailer loaded with sand. Yzquierdo sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she later died from those injuries.
The crash forced a shutdown of Highway 93 near Rue Scholastique Road while crews treated the injured and cleared debris, since one of the trucks was hauling a full trailer of sand, according to a report from Podimo. The Peterbilt driver was also transported to a local hospital after sustaining moderate injuries in the collision. The Kenworth driver was not injured.
Right-of-Way Rules Loom Over the Investigation
Per investigators, all three drivers involved were properly restrained at the time of the crash, and impairment was not suspected.
