SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Thursday, Utah! A surge of monsoon moisture will bring widespread showers and thunderstorms across Utah for the afternoon with rain showers continuing through the overnight.
Today’s weather: Overcast skies
Expect relatively overcast skies today with rain showers all along the I-15 corridor, which means the flood risk will stay elevated. The WPC has highlighted the entire state under a 5% risk of flash flooding within a 25-mile radius with a 15% risk for portions of southwest Utah including St. George and Cedar City.
The main areas of concern will continue to be our burn scar regions, most notably the Cottonwood, Widemouth 2, and Babylon burn scars. These areas are likely to see some of the worst of the flash flooding with severe debris flow downstream of rivers and life-threatening situations for nearby communities.

Other locations such as normally dry washes, slot canyons, and any low-lying areas could see the potential for flash flooding. Always have a way to receive alerts and if you are outdoors or driving, remember, get to higher ground immediately and turn around don’t drown!
The rain showers and cloud coverage, however, will help to keep temperatures on the cooler side and well below average. Daytime highs across Utah will only warm into the mid and upper 70’s with locations into southern Utah struggling to reach 90° with highs in the mid and upper 80’s.

Moisture will look to hang around into the overnight hours with rain showers and thunderstorms continuing. Expect Friday to be another similar day with isolated and scattered thunderstorms across Utah with the highest chances into central and southern Utah.
