Delta Air Lines is investigating an unusual onboard cybersecurity incident after an unauthorized Wi-Fi network appeared during a flight from Las Vegas to Atlanta, prompting crew members to temporarily disable internet service as a precaution. The airline said the event did not affect flight safety and that none of its operational systems were compromised, Yahoo! reported.
The incident occurred aboard Delta Flight 591 on Aug. 10 while the Boeing 757 was en route from Las Vegas to Atlanta. According to the airline, an initial review found that the network was not created, operated or supplied by Delta. Flight attendants shut down the aircraft’s Wi-Fi service for roughly 30 minutes while the situation was assessed, fox5atlanta.com said.
