Wellstar Health System has eliminated 761 corporate, shared-services and administrative positions, one of the largest publicly disclosed workforce reductions by a Georgia health system in recent years.
The cuts represent about 2% of Wellstar’s workforce of more than 35,000 employees. Doctors, nurses and other employees providing direct patient care were not included, according to the health system.
Wellstar said the reductions followed a broad review of its operations and were intended to simplify management, clarify responsibilities and move more decision-making closer to employees who work directly with patients. The positions were eliminated July 28.
The North Fulton impact remains unclear
