HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A 42-year-old man faces multiple felony charges after allegedly dressing up as a Walmart employee to steal electronics from two separate Tampa-area locations, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities reported that on August 11, 2026, the suspect entered a Walmart on Fletcher Avenue and grabbed an employee vest in an attempt to steal Apple Watches. He fled that location with only the vest after the initial theft attempt failed.
Investigators said the suspect then traveled to a second Walmart on Nebraska Avenue. Wearing the stolen vest to pose as a store employee, he successfully took three Apple Watches valued at a combined $837.
Detectives later identified the suspect as Devan Cherry, 42. Law enforcement officers located Cherry as he was getting into his vehicle.
During a search of Cherry’s vehicle, deputies recovered the stolen Apple Watches alongside a firearm.
