Milburn Orchards seeing sharply reduced apple crop due to April freeze

Two of Delawareans’ top regional orchards are saying they expect to have reduced apple crops this fall after winter overstayed its welcome this year.

Milburn Orchards announced Thursday they will not be holding their traditional “U-Pick” events for apples for the first time in over 30 years due to a crop shortage.

The orchard just west of Newark in Maryland said they lost over 90% of their apple crop during a series of April freezes, including one on the morning of April 21, which is nearly two weeks after northern Delaware typically has its last freeze…
