DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — The Office of State Inspector General and Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office announced charges against 60 people in connection with an alleged SNAP trafficking operation involving a grocery store.
Officials say the store, first known as Antonios Grocery IV LLC and later M&D Grocery Store on North 6th Street, used “rogue” electronic benefit transfer (EBT) terminals. That happens when a terminal using a legitimate Food and Nutrition Administration number from an approved retailer is operated by someone else to make fraudulent SNAP transactions.
“This investigation pulled back the curtain on a fraud operation that revealed store operators engaged in a sophisticated scheme to steal taxpayer dollars,” State Inspector General Michelle A. Henry said in a statement. “Thanks to the dedicated investigators, this criminal operation was shut down. Pennsylvania’s public benefits exist to put food on the table for families who need them. We will protect that mission.”
