A former New York City police officer who arrested Laken Riley’s killer six months before the migrant went on to murder the Georgia nursing student says sanctuary city policies in New York allowed the case to slip through the cracks, according to an op-ed published Saturday in the New York Post.
Ethan Curreri, who was assigned to the NYPD’s 113th Precinct in Queens and now serves with the Juno Beach Police Department in Florida, wrote that he and his partner arrested Jose Ibarra in August 2023 after observing him recklessly driving a motorcycle with a 2-year-old child who wasn’t wearing a helmet or secured with any safety restraint.
