North Charleston police celebrate second Spanish Citizens Academy graduation

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — The North Charleston Police Department celebrated the graduation of its second Spanish Citizens Police Academy on Friday.

The program, according to a CrimeWatch post from the department, offers an opportunity to bring officers and community members together, learn from one another, and build relationships beyond the eight-week course.

A team effort

The department said the success of the academy was a collaborative effort. Officers and training staff from the North Charleston Police Department, as well as other departments within the city, volunteered their time and shared their knowledge to help create the experience for graduates.

What graduates learned

Over eight weeks, participants learned about case law, community policing, traffic stops, firearms safety, emergency vehicle operations, building clearance, force-on-force scenarios and other aspects of law enforcement.
