Multi-vehicle crash on I-8 leaves several injured near Mission Bay

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — At least six people were injured Saturday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 8 south of Mission Bay, according to a Sig Alert from California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported around 9:56 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-8 near Sports Arena Boulevard. CHP initially received reports of five vehicles involved, including a silver Volkswagen Jetta with its airbags deployed, a white Kia, a black Rivian and two other vehicles that were only described as being gray.

Two vehicles were blocking the right lane and had heavy damage, CHP reported. Three additional vehicles were on the right-hand side of the freeway.

CHP later upgraded the incident to a traffic collision involving injuries and requested multiple tow trucks.

At least six people were reported injured. According to a CHP update, two patients were taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries. Two others were transported to UC San Diego Health’s Hillcrest campus…
