Nampa reopens Garrity Boulevard after emergency repair of ruptured water main

NAMPA, Idaho (CBS2) — Traffic is moving again on Garrity Boulevard south of I- 84 after an emergency repair to a ruptured 16-inch water main forced lane and ramp closures in Nampa.

The break happened Tuesday, Aug. 11, prompting the closure of southbound lanes and related ramps as city crews and contractors worked around the clock. Crews replaced about 550 feet of 16-inch water main.

City staff investigating the original 2002 installation determined the bedding and cover materials and practices used at the time did not meet current standards. Large boulders found directly adjacent to the pipe prevented proper bedding and alignment, contributing to the failure…
