- Former North Charleston Police Chief Ron Camacho resigned after nearly a year under internal investigation, with Mayor Reggie Burgess citing differing visions for department leadership as the reason for his departure.
NORTH CHARLESTON — Two council members said the news of former Chief Ron Camacho’s resignation revealed communication issues between the mayor’s office and City Council.
Councilman Chris Emde learned of the resignation from residents. Councilwoman Stephanie Ganaway-Pasley said she found out on social media. She acknowledged she received an email that was sent to all 10 council members before the news was publicly released, but she said the subject line was vague and she didn’t open it immediately.
On Aug. 10, Camacho parted ways with the police department after 20 months, including nearly a year under an internal investigation.
