Iowa City parking lots switch to mobile-only payment

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Three Iowa City parking lots have switched to mobile-payment only, eliminating coin-operated meters at those locations.

The Schumann, Market Street and Maiden Lane lots made the change this week. Drivers can now pay using the ParkMobile app, by scanning a QR code or by sending a text. For those without a smartphone, signage at the lots includes a phone number to call.

Why the city is making the switch

Darian Nagle-Gamm, director of Iowa City Transportation Services, said the shift reflects how most drivers currently pay.

“The meters are becoming increasingly redundant as more and more people continue to use the app,” Nagle-Gamm said…
