Discovery of Kayaker’s Drifting Belongings
The man was first reported missing on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. According to TWRA’s Matthew Cameron, another lake-goer discovered the man’s kayak and other personal belongings adrift in the water at around 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, just downstream from the Chilhowee Dam.
“A vehicle belonging to the missing individual was also located at a nearby boat ramp,” Cameron said.
Following the discovery, game wardens, the Blount County Sheriff’s Department, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) initiated a search. Teams utilized side-scan sonar equipment on the water, while the THP aviation unit conducted aerial sweeps. Despite these efforts, no targets were initially identified.
