Mill Creek grad reaches new heights as a professional climbing guide

Former Gwinnett County resident Justin Sackett has ascended to the top of his vocation as a climbing guide, “fighting gravity in challenging mountain environments.”

A 2016 graduate of Mill Creek High School, Sackett owns and operates Skyline Mountain Guides in Snoqualmie, Washington, about 30 minutes east of Seattle. Sackett’s specialties for his clients are ice climbing, ski mountaineering and high-altitude climbing, and he’s summited some of the highest heights in the world.

Although Sackett joked that he climbed nearby Stone Mountain a time or two while growing up, he said he caught the climbing bug when he went on a trip with his family to Ecuador and pursued “the hardest hike in Ecuador” — which turned out to be the 22,000-foot Chimborazo, the highest volcano in the country — after a Google search…
