MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Alabama Department of Corrections is launching a tobacco-free initiative for all of state prisons and correctional facilities.
The initiative will be for both staff and inmates. It will be rolled out in phases to eventually include all facilities. This will include the Governor Kay Ivey Correctional Complex currently under construction.
The first phase will include Elmore, Frank Lee, Kilby and Staton facilities. Their canteens will stop selling tobacco products on Sept. 1, but ADOC says they will still sell NicoDerm patches and ZYN pouches.
