Tidwell Park’s long construction closure is no longer an approaching inconvenience. The gate is now closed, removing a familiar Lake Lanier access point from Forsyth County’s recreation map for approximately three years.
The park closed Aug. 3 to accommodate construction of Forsyth County’s new raw-water intake facility. A reopening is expected in 2029, although the larger water project will continue beyond the park closure.
North Atlanta Star first warned residents about the approaching closure in July. Its effect is now practical: boaters, anglers and families accustomed to launching at Tidwell must choose another access point, and the remaining ramps may become busier during warm-weather weekends.
Where Tidwell users can go instead
Forsyth County previously identified four locally operated Lake Lanier parks with ramps that would remain available when federal facilities closed.
