Lemon Street High School Class of 1966 reunites to reflect on community, history

POWDER SPRINGS — A few dozen seniors braved the heat Saturday afternoon to spend time with old friends at the 60th reunion for the Lemon Street High School Class of 1966.

Lemon Street High School was a school for Black students in Cobb County before the school district integrated in the late 1960s. The school was located in Marietta but served Black students from around the county, busing them in from as far as Acworth and Smyrna, reunion organizers said.

Built in 1951, it closed in 1970, according to the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, and was used for various purposes before being converted into the Woods-Wilkins Campus in 2021. The campus administers Marietta High School’s nontraditional academic programs…
