PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — There is a Heat Advisory for Chatham and Montgomery counties from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. where heat indices up to 109 degrees are possible.
Heat and humidity return today along with a chance of late afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Highs are headed back into the mid-90s with heat indices in the lower-100s. A complex of storms from Kentucky and Indiana is forecast to tumble across the Appalachians later today.
There is a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms during the late afternoon, then a 50% chance as we head into the evening. There is a Level 2/Slight Risk of severe weather, with damaging winds being the primary risk. Lows overnight settle in the mid-70s.
A cold front dives southward across the Piedmont during the day on Tuesday. In the wake of this front, the humidity is expected to drop to slightly more comfortable levels though high temperatures remain in the lower-90s. Mostly sunny skies stay put both Tuesday and Wednesday.
