LINN COUNTY, Iowa — The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a high-speed chase ends with a crash near Mount Vernon.
Deputies say the tried to pull over a 2021 Dodge Charger on Highway 13 near Mount Vernon Road just after midnight on Monday, August 17. That’s when deputies say the driver turned off their headlights and sped away, reaching speed up to 135 MPH. Deputies followed the car onto Highway 30 and the Mount Vernon – Lisbon Police tried to stop the car using spike strips. The driver then crashed at the Lisbon Blvd. exit ramp, got out of the car, and ran off.
Linn County Sheriff and the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Police Department tried to find the driver. They were helped by the Iowa State Patrol, Cedar County Sheriff’s Office, and the Tipton Police Department. The driver was not found, but they did identify a suspect. That suspect information has not been released…
