Ashland City Woman Arrested on Animal Cruelty Charges

An Ashland City woman is in custody in Georgia and her Cheatham County dog sanctuary is under scrutiny from law enforcement, animal welfare advocates and a local rescue organization after 46 animals were removed from the property.

Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) conducted “Operation Money Trail” on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Cane-9 Rescue and Sanctuary on Cheatham Dam Road in Ashland City. According to an ARC press release, rescuers removed 46 animals from the site, including 37 dogs, six chickens, two turkeys and one pig.

Jennifer Elaine Caneup, 49, was arrested Thursday, July 30, in Nashville on warrants from Douglas County, Georgia, involving multiple animal cruelty charges.

Animal activists had raised alarms on social media, accusing Caneup of collecting donations for animals when she was not registered to do so. A search of the Tennessee Secretary of State’s Registered Charities did not show Cane-9 listed…
