Virginia deputy arrested on DUI, hit-and-run charge in Horry County

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A Virginia sheriff’s deputy was arrested on DUI and hit-and-run charges in Horry County last month, arrest documents show.

Christopher Shaver was charged with hit-and-run involving property damage and DUI. He was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on July 23 and released July 26 on a bond of just under $10,000.

When Shaver was stopped after he crashed with another vehicle and was asked what happened, he told a state trooper, “I think it’s from a collision and I just pulled over,” according to an incident report, which also notes that Shaver had an odor of alcohol on his breath, was holding onto his vehicle to maintain his balance, and had slurred speech…
