For decades, soccer has been a major part of the Clarksville community. But supporters of the sport say the city’s current facilities have struggled to keep up with demand.
Denise Pickett, former president of the Montgomery County Soccer Association, says Heritage Park has long since outgrown its original purpose. “It was built for 1,500 players. We surpassed that well over 10 years ago,” Pickett said.
According to Pickett, the park serves more than just recreational soccer leagues. Travel teams, the Clarksville Soccer Club and the Clarksville Christian School teams have also relied on the facilities for games and practices. “It’s been used and overused,” she said…
