Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway fight escalates as petitioners report harassment, assaults while canvassing

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Nashville coalition trying to hit the brakes on auto-racing at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway said its petitioners are getting attacked and harassed while canvassing the community.

“Restore Our Fairgrounds” is circulating a petition to amend Nashville’s charter to ban auto racing at the Nashville Fairgrounds, replacing it with “affordable and/or workforce housing” and traditional fair activities, expo center events and flea markets.

Stephen Loftin, Project Director for Restore Our Fairgrounds, said the tension surrounding this issue has gotten so heated, they’ve had to file several police reports after harassment and assaults from members of the public began on July 6…
