Asbestos Botch at Kensington High Forces Students Seven Miles to Northeast Philadelphia

More than 400 students and 90 staff from Kensington High School on East Cumberland Street were displaced to a vacant Northeast Philadelphia school building after a summer HVAC installation project disturbed and spread asbestos throughout the facility.

The relocation, reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer and Chalkbeat Philadelphia, took effect when teachers returned from summer break on Monday, August 17, 2026.
