Missouri law lets businesses round cash totals to the nearest Nickel

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The U.S. Mint is no longer minting pennies. Starting Aug. 28, House Bill 2819 will allow Missouri businesses to round cash payments up or down to the nearest nickel.

Aimee Moran, founder and curator of Second Hand Swag Society on Commercial Street in Springfield, said she received an email from the Department of Revenue notifying her of the upcoming change. Moran said she thought she had time before the change would affect her, until she went to the bank last week.

“Yeah, they gave me my dimes, quarters, nickels, but then I asked for pennies, and they’re like, no, we don’t give pennies out anymore. And I was like, what?” Moran said…
