ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A dream that began in Alaska has now gone global.
“I did track in high school at Eagle River and then later on in my years joined the Alaska Running Academy which often meets down at The Dome,” Jordyn Bruce, a former heptathlete at Illinois State University said. “One of the coaches there, [Raphael Echavarria] actually did the decathlon in college himself so he started showing me the ropes a little bit then I got introduced to the heptathlon and that’s what I ended up going into college for.”
Bruce, 27, has represented the state and the U.S. at the Women’s Decathlon World Championships in each of the event’s first three years. Competing in 10 varying events over two days, the Eagle River product was the only athlete in the world to podium in the first two years, earning bronze in 2024 and 2025…
