Bond denied for Norfolk shooting suspect

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — One of two men facing multiple charges in connection to a shooting earlier this month in Norfolk was denied bond Tuesday.

Raymond Rainey, who like Antonio Hughes has been charged with malicious shooting and firearm possession by a convicted felon, was asking for bond during a hearing in a Norfolk courtroom. Prosecutors, however, said Rainey, who appeared in court with his arm in a sling, is a danger to others and has a criminal record that shows 13 felony convictions, from probation violations to assault and battery on law enforcement.

According to court documents, when officers arrived at Scott Street in Norfolk around 9 a.m. Aug. 7 after getting two calls for gunshots from two different locations, they found Rainey had been shot in the arm, with detectives determining he had been shot minutes before on Mangrove Avenue…
