Miami reaches all-time record high of 100 degrees for first time since 1942

As a major heat dome impacts Florida, heat alerts are in effect across the entire state. Miami reached 100 degrees today, a temperature that is extremely rare for the city, tying its all-time record high.

It is usually very difficult for Miami to reach 100 degrees because of the high humidity. However, today, drier air mixed down from the heat dome, allowing temperatures to climb to this rare level.

This marks only the second time since records began in 1895 that Miami has reached 100 degrees. The previous record was set on July 21, 1942…
