More than 50 motorcyclists have died in Maryland so far this year, exceeding 2025’s total

More motorcyclists have died on Maryland roadways in 2026 than in all of 2025, even as the overall number of road deaths has decreased, according to police data.

As of Tuesday, 51 motorcyclists died in crashes across the state this year, compared to 49 motorcycle fatalities for all of 2025, according to Maryland State Police data posted on the website for the state’s “Zero Deaths MD” initiative.

However, the overall number of traffic deaths is down. Maryland State Police data shows that 250 people have died on roads so far this year — 158 drivers and motorcyclists, 37 passengers and 55 non-motorists…
