No alcohol, no talking: This Dallas music venue isn’t like most clubs

  • Martin’s Music Cafe at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Dallas is a volunteer-run nonprofit hosting seated concerts in a true concert space without alcohol and talking during the show.

Dallas’ acoustic faithful have another place to worship. Martin’s Music Café, inside King of Glory Lutheran Church, is carrying on the listening-room tradition of the late, great Uncle Calvin’s Coffeehouse at NorthPark Presbyterian Church.

The names share the same ecclesiastical wordplay: Uncle Calvin’s took its name from Protestant reformer John Calvin, while Martin’s tips its hat to Martin Luther.

Launched in June 2024, the volunteer-run nonprofit hosts seated concerts in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Unlike most clubs, Martin’s is a true concert space: Alcohol is verboten and talking during the show is a no-no. Coffee, tea and desserts are served pre-concert and at intermission…
