Fast-growing Waller ISD faces registration backlog after first day of school

Waller ISD said Friday it had a backlog of student registration applications days after the start of school, leaving hundreds of students not yet enrolled in classes.

The fast-growing district said in an email it received thousands of registration applications over the summer and still had 389 awaiting review Friday. Officials said the surge of new students, along with missing documents in some applications, contributed to the backlog as enrollment continues to climb across Waller and northwest Harris counties.

“Our registrars are working extremely hard to process applications as quickly as possible, and we are using all available trained staff to help support them,” said Sarah Marcus, Waller ISD’s chief communications officer…
